The Veteran Connection

Updated: May 7, 2021

"Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day." ~Sally Koch

The profound impact that veterans from the war in Vietnam had on the thousands of children orphaned as a result of that terrible war can never be underestimated or taken for granted. In this photo, an unidentified US service member accompanies a group of orphans during their playtime on Mỹ Khê Beach (then referred to as China Beach) on the shore of Da Nang, Vietnam. The Sacred Heart Orphanage was located a block from the beach which sands served as a playground and was where everlasting bonding relationships between the orphans and the service members were often forged. This photo (circa 1970) was provided to Kirk by a nun at the Sacred Heart School for Disabled Children (formerly the orphanage) during a visit in June of 2019. The photographer is unknown at this time. If you recognize the US serviceman in this photo, or anyone else, please comment! #VietnameseAdoptee #ChildrenOfWar #AmerAsian #IntercountryAdoption #Adoption #DNASearch #ImpossibleIsNothing #TheBestIsYetToBe #DreamBigOrGoHome #ThankYouVietVeterans #Never4getVietnam #PayItForward
